Charissa Barger is an accomplished harpist in the San Diego area with a versatile performing and recording career. She is well versed in many styles of music, which has led to collaborations with renowned artists: the Wu Tang Clan, Dionne Warwick, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Jackson Guthy, Ghost, MAX, Damian Marley, Stanley Clarke, Mike Garson, Richard Carpenter, Barry Manilow and Shankar. As an orchestral harpist, she has performed under the direction of John Williams, Michael Giacchino, Danny Elfin, Sir Nevile Marriner, Carl St. Clair, James Conlon, Jahja Ling, Larry Rachleff and Gerard Schwarz. She has performed throughout the US and Europe at prestigious venues, including: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Segerstrom Hall, the Dolby Theatre, the Wallis Annenberg Center, LA Live, the Santa Barbara Bowl, Copley Symphony Hall, California Plaza and Coachella Music Festival.
Charissa is an active recording artist both as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Her work can be heard on the scores of numerous films, television shows, video games and commercials, including the Grammy-nominated score for Sony’s Journey by Austin Wintory, the first video game to receive this honor. She has been featured on screen in Entourage: The Movie, ABC’s Mistresses, the Ellen DeGeneres Show and commercials for Laughing Cow and Dignity Health.
Charissa is an advocate for new music and as a member of the Hyperion Duo, she has premiered and recorded original compositions by Ali Helwein, Mike Barry, Jeremy Tisser, Austin Chanu and Jules Pegram. She has performed with contemporary ensembles WildUp, What’s Next, Classical Revolution, the LA Composers Project and Jacaranda.
Charissa is a passionate music teacher and teaches Early Childhood Music classes at the Colburn Community School. She is co-founder of the SoCal Music Team, which provides after school enrichment classes and private music lessons to schools in the Southern California region.
Charissa holds degrees in music from the University of Southern California (MM ’13), the Colburn Conservatory of Music (AD ’11) and the University of Michigan (BM ’08). Based in Los Angeles, Charissa performs regularly in live concerts, recording sessions, TV/Film and private events. She offers remote recording on concert harp and Celtic harp for composers and producers.
